As I stood on the Tel Aviv beach at dusk, my gaze fell upon a haunting sight that I instantly knew would materialize into a painting. A hooded figure, isolated and alone, stood amidst the desolate shoreline, engrossed in the glow of his mobile phone. Behind him, ominous clouds loomed in the darkening sky, casting an eerie backdrop to the scene. The solitary figure stood beneath the faint illumination of a lone light post, its feeble glow adding to the sense of isolation and disconnection. Strangely, there were no shadows cast by any of the objects, intensifying the feeling of dislocation and alienation permeating the atmosphere. This painting, a poignant reminder of the tumultuous times during the Gaza war when fear gripped the city and the beaches lay deserted, stands as a testament to the surreal and unsettling nature of those days. As I reflected on the stark contrast between the usual bustling crowds of Tel Aviv's shores and the solitary figure before me, I couldn't help but be struck by the profound impact of the recent events on the city and its people.
